MMI is Leading the Way in Hand and Upper Extremity Care in Frederick
“Fellowship-trained hand surgeons are on-call to consult with the emergency department and hospital doctors,” hand and upper extremity surgeon Dr. Steven Horton said. The Hand Center at MMI can treat trauma-related injuries like fractures and sprains, but doctors and staff can also access and treat conditions that develop over time like carpal tunnel or arthritis. “It’s important to get patients back to their activities, whether it’s work, picking up their grandkids or driving,” Dr. Horton said. The launch of The Hand Center at MMI streamlines and better connects coverage from the emergency department to surgery, and outpatient treatment to physical or occupational hand therapy. At our facility each of our Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) has at least five years' experience in physical or occupational therapy, has completed at least 4,000 hours of direct hand treatment, and has passed the comprehensive CHT examination. They are skilled at fabricating and adjusting custom splints to aid recovery and prevent re-injury. Our CHTs attend conferences and seminars to stay up-to-date on changes within the hand therapy industry.
The Hand Center at MMI combines board certified orthopaedic surgeons and certified hand therapists collaborative approach to get you back to the activities you love. When surgery is required, for most procedures Dr. Nesbitt Silon and Dr. Horton utilize minimally invasive techniques that lead to an easier, faster recovery with an earlier return to work and activities. Injury and chronic pain can be treated with minimally invasive techniques and approaches that affect less tissues, reducing pain and speeding recovery.
