Three years ago, the Mid-Maryland Musculoskeletal Institute (MMI) opened its Hagerstown office with one physician, Dr. Enrico Villanueva, seeing patients four hours per week. Over the last three years, MMI has continually expanded in its effort to develop the Hagerstown practice and become a vital part of the medical community, providing care to Washington County area residents. MMI now has a full time medical presence in Hagerstown.
Due to continued growth and expansion of services in Hagerstown, MMI will move to a larger facility located in the same development as the current office, Fox Deceived. The physicians and physical therapists at MMI will begin seeing patients at the new location, 1829 Howell Road, Suite 4, Hagerstown, MD 21740 on Monday, November 21, 2011.
Dr. Enrico Villanueva, MMI’s rheumatologist who practices in Hagerstown commented, “Growing and developing my
practice in Hagerstown has been a wonderful experience. I am very thankful for the warm reception my staff, partners and I have received. We look forward to continued growth.” In addition to Dr. Villanueva, Dr. Frank Nisenfeld, orthopaedic surgeon, practices in the Hagerstown office as well. Dr. Nisenfeld, who started the practice over thirty years ago, stated “We have always stressed the 3 A’s of specialty medicine; ability (quality), availability (making ourselves available to our patients and the referring physicians) and amiability (treating everyone with respect, following the Golden Rule). That formula has worked well for us and we really appreciate the support we have received in Washington County.”
Earlier this year MMI added physical therapy services in its Hagerstown office. Doctors Villanueva and Nisenfeld thought it was important to add “hometown talent.” Beverly Kornides, PT, a well know physical therapist who lives in Hagerstown and has cared for Washington county area residents for over twenty years agreed to lead the rehabilitation operation. “After developing the rehabilitation department of MMI in Frederick County I was ready for my next challenge. This gave me the opportunity to work in my home town, to treat my neighbors, work with local physicians, whom I know and respect and build a PT practice in my own backyard.” Dr. Nisenfeld indicated, “We are really pleased Bev Kornides agreed to spearhead our Physical Therapy operation in Hagerstown. She has already recruited another longtime Hagerstown physical therapist to work with her; their practice will definitely have a local feel.”
One of the services Dr. Villanueva was particularly interested in was the expansion of MMI’s Infusion suite. The new
facility offers a more open and airy feel. “Given that some patients are treated for up to four hours at a time, patient comfort is important. The flat screen high definition television, recliners and natural lighting make a huge difference.” Registered nurses are on site to assist Dr. Villanueva manage this service.
Faced with the challenge of continued expansion, MMI was able to locate a larger, more modern clinical space very near its current facility. “The new office will be equipped with patient friendly and comfortable examination rooms, an Infusion Center and expanded space for Physical and Occupational Therapy. Dr. Villanueva says “We look forward to continuing to grow our practice and to serving our Hagerstown area patients for many years to come.”
