Back To Work with MMI
At MMI we excel at work injury rehabilitation services that support the injured worker. We have highly trained staff who are very capable of handling orthopedic issues whether mild or more severe to assist one’s return to safe and active employment. As with any patient we treat the injured workers with an individualized and comprehensive care plan that focuses on functional progression. From intake on we understand the importance of clear, concise, and consistent communication with the worker, case managers, physicians, and insurance representatives. Part of the injured workers program also includes ergonomic and job specific education regarding any future risk of re-injury at the workplace.
Functional Capacity Evaluations are offered at both our Frederick and Hagerstown offices. A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is an assessment frequently lasting 3-5 hours to evaluate an individual capacity to perform work activities related to his or her job. It outlines one’s ability to stand, sit, walk, lift, bend carry and other activities required for a safe return to work. Based on the results of the assessment helps the referring physician and case management team to understand more objectively one’s readiness to return to work. Sometimes an employer can accommodate one to return to work with limitations and place the worker in a safe limited duty work environment. If an employer cannot accommodate restrictions, then a referral to our work conditioning or work hardening program may be suggested. Such a program consists of exercise education, job simulation that focuses on the workers impairments or deficiencies. This will facilitate a full work release.
Several staff at MMI rehab are also trained in injury prevention and workplace consulting. Many area employers have called upon these staff members to visit the worksite and evaluate work tasks to improve safety and lessen repetitive injury and thus reduce employee injury rate. Serious workplace injuries continue to hurt the bottom line for employers. A Liberty Mutual recent study noted estimated $55 billion dollar a year loss due to workers’ compensation claims and injuries. A well-rounded return to work program such as those offered at MMI can help employers better control the total impact and cost of workers being away from the job, while helping their employees quickly recover from an injury.
Finally, we pride ourselves in partnering with our injured workers, case managers, and physicians providing a strong return to work focus. MMI is here for your needs of physical/occupational therapy, onsite ergonomic assessments, FCE testing, and work conditioning.
