What is a Mid-level Provider?

At MMI we have four Physician Assistants, also known as Mid-Level Providers, participating in patient care. These practitioners are trained and certified healthcare professionals.

A Physician Assistant’s education is based on the medical model designed to complement physician training, rather than the nursing model used with nurse practitioners. Unlike medical school, which lasts four years plus a specialty-specific residency, PA training is usually 2 to 3 years in duration. (either a Bachelors or Masters degree)

As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, Mid-Level Providers:

  • Conduct Physical Exams
  • Diagnose and Treat Illnesses
  • Order and Interpret Tests
  • Counsel on Preventive Health Care
  • Assist in Surgery
  • Write Prescriptions
  • Perform Procedures such as Injections and Aspirations
  • Treat Patients who Require Fracture or Wound Care

In addition, our Physician Assistants improve access to quality medical care for all our patients by seeing many of our emergent cases, and assisting in the pre-op and post-op care of our surgical patients.
